Congratulations! You are on your way to university. You may be feeling all the feels. Excited, nervous, and a little terrified of a new place without the security of home. So much to do to prepare for your first day. Where will you live? How much will it cost? Will you have your own space? Do you need to make an IKEA run?

We’ve all been there. We get it. Getting ready for this next chapter in your life can be overwhelming. We’re here to check off a few items on your to-do list.

If you are a professor looking for a temporary place to call home but aren’t sure where to look. No worries, we’ve got you covered. We now accept short term tenants in our accommodation sites. Let us help you find a flat closest to your university.

So what is a short term let?

Good question. The legal way of saying it is “any rental less than 30 days”.
It allows you to rent a place between one to thirty days. StudentFM offers a minimum lease of one week. This is perfect when family or friends want to visit you. Seeing where you live helps parents feel more comfortable while you are away from home. You’re sure to score points with mum which is always a plus.

Short term rentals are ideal for professors filling in for a short time. International students new to the area feel grounded in our accommodations. A shorter housing commitment helps test out our accommodation. Then you’re able to decide if it’s the right fit for you.

Furnished short term rentals.

Short term rentals are sure to provide everything for you. It literally is a temporary home. We offer shared flats or studio apartments. Your room includes a large desk, bed, wardrobe, shelves, and bedside table. All rooms include an en suite bathroom. No need for making charts to see who gets the bathroom, when they get it, and for how long. This makes getting ready for Uni, study group, or date night a breeze and an added bonus that our tenants love.

The shared apartments include a kitchen and lounge area for you and your flatmates. If you prefer your own space, no problem! Our studios are perfect for those who treasure their time alone. Be rejuvenated for the next day. We want this to feel like home so you can take on your day with confidence and enthusiasm.

Dorm vs. Apartment

You may be thinking, “I can just stay on campus, wouldn’t that be easier”? Maybe. It depends on what you’re looking for in a living space. Short term rentals are often cheaper. They don’t include food like universities. But many students often eat less food than what their meal plan provides. That’s a huge negative when most students are on a budget.

Dorms charge for infractions like noise complaints or minor damages when you leave. Of course, things can happen that are out of your control. Sometimes students have to leave Uni for unexpected reasons, and you can be charged a penalty fee for breaking the housing contract, even if you plan on returning. Ouch!

In a flat, you avoid losing money when you are on a short term contract, like month to month. Part of the university experience is the social life. Most tenants are fellow students. So you don’t miss out on making lifelong friends during your educational experience.

Some worry this is their first time living completely on their own. What if you forget to pay a bill? Everything combined in your rent ensures this won’t’ happen. Your transition should be easy as you start the next chapter of your life as an adult. This is why we are here.

Still not sure if a short-term flat is for you?

Ask yourself 3 questions to find out.

Do you enjoy more space and privacy? In a flat, you get your own bathroom, furniture in your room, a lounge area, and a kitchen. Privacy on campus is almost impossible to find unless you are willing to pay a ton for it.

Are you on a budget? Students find buying groceries and making food is cheaper than University meals. It’s common to provide meal plans for students. But it’s not cost-effective. Dorms cost more while providing less space.

Do you enjoy your independence? You are on your own now. Many universities have a curfew. The raw truth is, adults don’t. Part of the higher education experience is learning to take care of yourself. Make your way in the world. Freedom allows you to develop habits to perform at your best each day. A flat better equips you for life.

Everyone is different. With varying needs and concerns, the solutions are as diverse as our students. We welcome you to our community at StudentFM. We do everything we can to provide you with the comforts of home, no matter how long you stay with us. Whether it’s a week or 4 years. Our shorter lease option helps you find a comfortable, modern place to live – without the commitment. Although, we are sure you’ll want to stay.
